How do I apply?
Applications may be obtained from our website: www.saconycommons.com. Click on "Applications". You may print out, complete and mail or FAX your one-page application, or complete and submit the easy-to use "On_Line Application" form.
What are the selection criteria?
Credit and disciplinary records will be evaluated. Applicants must be full-time KU students in good standing. Preference will be given to upper class students and those who apply early, however no age criteria (Example, 21+) is in effect for 2007-08. Applicants must acknowledge the buildings are smoke free and are located in a Drug-Free School zone.
What is the length of the lease?
One academic year (2 semesters) corresponding with KU's academic year calendar. There are no holiday "move-out" dates.
If my roommate leaves, am I responsible for his/her rent?
No. Each individual is responsible for his own lease obligations.
Are summer rentals available?
Full or Partial Summer rentals are available for 2007. We also offer summer rates or storage options for existing residents. Contact us for information and prices.
Must the apartments be vacated during University breaks/holidays?
No. Starting and ending dates will follow the University calendar.
What utilities are included?
Air conditioning, heat and electric (subject to excess usage charges), water, sewer, garbage removal and local phone service.
What is the rental cost?
"All-in" prices include utilities (water, sewer, heat, air-conditioning, local phone, Expanded Basic-97-channels, including HD & Digital_ cable TV and high-speed internet in-room and “Wi-Fi”), furniture and appliances (including a washer/dryer in each apartment-not a coin-op!), off street parking, refuse removal and snow plowing.

2007 base rental prices are $685 if the 10-installment plan is selected-monthly payments due from August 1, 2007 through and including May 1, 2008; $3,355 if the semester plan is selected-2-payments due August 1, 2007 and January 1, 2008; or $6410 if the annual plan is chosen-1-payment due August 1, 2007. Hi-speed Internet (both Ethernet connection in each bedroom and "Wi-Fi" (wireless fidelity) connectivity adds $35 monthly to the 10-installment plan, $140 per semester to the 2-payment semester plan, and $250 to the 1-payment annual plan. All prices quoted are based on a standard full academic year (fall & spring semester) lease term. A limited number of one-semester lease terms may be available at higher prices. Call for summer rates.

Do you offer payment plans?
For approved applicants we offer 10 (monthly), 2 (semi-annual) or 1 (annual) payment plans. Major credit cards are accepted. Certification of student financial aid or loans could allow a deferred payment schedule. Call for details.
Is a security deposit required?
Yes, $250 payable when lease is signed.
Are there other fees?
An Application Fee of $100 is payable with the submission of the Application form and covers processing costs. There is a Common Area Fee of $50 per semester to cover maintenance items, payable at the start of each semester. Payment for Optional services you may select, such as Premium TV packages (HBO, etc.) and/or Hi-Speed Plus internet is due at the start of each semester.
What is "Hi-Speed Plus" internet service and what does it cost?
The internet service provided to each bedroom in Sacony Commons is at least double the speed of any other student housing facility in the region. Its cost is included in your rental.

If you are a "Gamer", or like to download big files, movies, music (hopefully some of it related to your studies!) then "Hi-Speed Plus" is for you! This optional service will provide your bedroom internet connection with speeds of up to 5Mbps bi-directional prioritized service. And, since your connection will be shared with a smaller user base, speeds should be consistently high and super-fast.

Introduced and available starting October 2007, "Hi-Speed Plus" costs $75 for the remainder of fall 2007 semester and $100 for spring, 2008 semester.

Can I get my own “In-Room” Cable TV or Telephone connection?
Expanded Basic-97-channel-Cable TV connection is included in your base rent in the "common area" (Living room) of each apartment. HometTown Utilicom's 97-channel lineup includes the popular ESPN and Comcast SportsNet channels. New this year are Free HD and Digital channels. If purchased separately from HU this service would cost $31.75 monthly. Also available at additional cost is choice of two premium channel packages (HBO, Cinemax, etc.) at $50 per semester or $90 if prepaid for the year. (A $16 per month value!)

Optional In-Room Cable TV connection for Expanded Channel service is available at $75 per semester, or $140 if pre-paid on an annual basis. Premium Channel packages (HBO, Cinemax, etc.) are available for $50 each per semester or $90 if pre-paid.

A telephone including local-only service is included in your rent, located in the main living area. Residents may receive long-distance calls and can use a credit or calling card for non-local outbound calls. In-Room telephone connections are available. This optional service is provided by D&E Communications at special student rates. Cell phones work well at Sacony Commons.

How large is the apartment?
Each apartment has 785 square feet of living space.
Are all units 3 bedrooms?
Yes. All apartments contain three private, single bedrooms.
Can more than 3 people share the apartment?
Local codes limit the occupancy to 3 people per apartment.
How many baths?
Each apartment has a full bath (shower, double vanity, toilet, washer/dryer) and a half bath (vanity, toilet).
Are the apartments furnished?
Yes, Beds, desks, living/dining area furniture and major appliances including refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, range and oven, microwave and WASHER/DRYER (not coin-op) are provided. Students will need to bring their own dishes, kitchenware, bed linens, televisions, computers, throw rugs, etc.
Is off-street parking available?
Yes, one space per resident.
What are bedroom and other measurements?
Phase I Apartments (South Side of Normal Avenue):

One bedroom in each 3-bedroom apartment measures 11'10" x 8'5". The other two bedrooms are 11'4" x 8'. Living/Dining area measures 15'5" x 10'2".

Phase II Apartments (North Side of Normal Avenue):

One bedroom measures 11'11" x 10'6" and the other two measure 10'11" x 9'3". Living area measures 15'4" x 11'6" and Kitchen measures 12'2" x 10'8".

In all Apartments:

The main bathroom includes a shower, vanities, toilet and washer/dryer. There is also a one-half bath (toilet and vanity) in most apartments. (Exception: ADA apartments). Mattresses measure 80" x 36". There are drawers under the bed and large wardrobe with two drawers in each bedroom. Tack strips are included in bedrooms and living areas to mount pictures and posters. Blinds are included, No window coverings are permitted.
Do I need insurance coverage?
Sacony Commons is fully insured, however this coverage is limited to the projects buildings and contents. While not required, you may wish to explore “renter’s insurance”. You family insurance advisor can advise you about coverage that may exist under existing Homeowner’s policies.
